Ricardo Sanchez

As American men and women risk their lives and sacrifice years of comfort to defend American interests in Iraq and Afghanistan, LTG (retired [and none too soon]) Ricardo Sanchez has graced the world's media with the following words of encouragement for American servicemembers and their families Iran, the sectarian militias, the Taliban, and al Qaeda:

"There is no question that America is living a nightmare with no end in sight."

"The administration, congress, and the entire interagency, especially the Department of State, must shoulder the responsibility for this catastrophic failure and the American people must hold them accountable." [emphasis to the dumbest part of this quote added by the blogger]

"After more than four years of fighting, America continues its desperate struggle in Iraq without any concerted effort to devise a strategy that will achieve victory in that war torn country or in the greater conflict against extremism."

"The latest 'revised strategy' is a desperate attempt by an administration that has not accepted the political and economic realities of this war and they have definitely not communicated that reality to the American people."

"Our commanders on the ground will continue to make progress and provide time for the development of a grand strategy that will be wasted effort as we have seen repeatedly since 2003. In the meantime, our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines will continue to die."

Etc., etc., etc.

Sanchez's comments lead me to two questions:

1. Now that this guy is retired, shouldn't things start going a bit more smoothly over there?
2. How, I mean HOW, do we end up with SCHMUCKS LIKE THIS GUY for GENERALS?????
